Fishing with the Guild
By admin | February 26, 2013
Our guild had a Fishing Derby earlier this evening. We were trying to get closer to our Guild Achievements for fishing. We did improve our numbers a bit, and 3 of our guildies won some gold!
We started out with 8619/25000 for Pandaren Angler, and ended at 9395. For Like Shooting Fish in a Barrel, we started at 38289/50000 and ended at 39065. Not bad for 1 hour of fishing with 8 players!

Does This Outfit Make Me Look…Transmogged?
By admin | November 4, 2012
So, I was out in Klaxxi land, minding my own business, when this other player whispers me out of nowhere. “Why in the world did you transmog into that?” I was a bit taken aback at first. I actually didn’t have any of my gear transmogged.
I thought maybe it was a mistell. So, I asked him (let’s just assume the player was a male) if he meant to pst me. He said he did, and he was wondering why I would go to the trouble of transmogging into the “hideous” gear I was wearing.
I told him that I didn’t have any of my gear transmogged – I mean I was still wearing mostly greens, so why bother? He just couldn’t believe that I was okay walking around Pandaria in the ugly outfit I was wearing.
Don’t get me wrong – I totally agreed that my outfit was ugly. But, I wasn’t about to spend gold that I’m saving for a Yak mount on pretty-ing up some greens. I knew that eventually I’d get some decent looking blues and purples, and it wouldn’t matter.
But, it did make me wonder why some random player that I didn’t know would even care enough to pst me about it. And, why anyone would think I was trying to purposefully look terrible as I worked on my dailies and quests was beyond me!
I’m writing this post today to show off my current outfit, which I do rather like. It certainly looks better than the shoulder-pad-on-only-one-shoulder, greenish-brown mishmash of gear I had before!

Pandaland Pictures
By admin | October 7, 2012
Since the servers are down, and I cannot feed my WOW addiction right now, I figured I’d take a moment to actually post some pictures on my blog! Wheeee!
This first one is a shot of all the planes that were trying to do the boat assault quest on day 1, right after the official launch time.
This is my Panda riding along in the cart.
This is a shot of my hunter taking a bug ride. Not on day 1, mind you. :P

Thoughts on Theramore
By admin | September 24, 2012
After about a week, I thought I would summarize what WOW players around Azeroth were saying about the Theramore event/scenario:
…if this is a substitute for a pre-launch event I’ll be sorely disappointed. I’m not usually one to call out Blizzard on things that I don’t like. I’m aware that each player has their own preferences and you can’t make all the people happy all the time. However, Blizzard has set the precedent themselves.
I really had high hopes for this event considering I love Jaina Proudmoore and really enjoyed reading Tides of War, however Horde side, this event was terrible.
Personally, I thought it was kind of fun to run around the port zerging Horde and seeing the destruction of Theramore. I’ve heard the horde side story is a bit better, but my horde toons aren’t 353 ilvl yet.
But the big thing, though, is that if I hadn’t read Tides of War, I’d have no idea why the hell I was there in the first place. And that, I think, is the hugest issue with this scenario. There was no build up to it, no ‘why’ or anything like that. A few introduction quests or even just extending the scenario a bit would have helped it tremendously.
To be fair.. It was lots of fun falling of ships and pulling too many mobs with the lovely people I went with.
Played the Theramore scenario in WoW. Scenarios seem really fun. I liked the break from traditional MMO class role based dungeons.
These are just a few of the comments from blogs and Twitter, but the opinions certainly range from good to bad – not much in between. Personally, when I ran it the first time, and it ended, I was left with a “that’s it?” feeling. And, after running it several more times with different classes, I still feel like something is missing.
I’m hopeful that future scenarios will be more “fun” and perhaps more diverse.

Clothies Hit 85!
By admin | September 15, 2012
After many years of just doing cooking, fishing, and holiday dailies and quests, I finally decided to finish leveling my Lock and Mage. I got the Mage to 85 first, about a week ago. I just finished off the Lock today.
Some interesting stats on my slowly leveled characters:
Lock:
Total Deaths: 14
Quests Completed: 917
Total Kills: 7748
Daily Quests Completed: 625
Fish Caught: 1599
Mage:
Total Deaths: 11
Quests Completed: 850
Total Kills: 7914
Daily Quests Completed: 568
Fish Caught: 1550
These stats, as compared to my main Hunter are interesting:
Total Deaths: 1006
Quests Completed: 4467
Total Kills: 115144
Daily Quests Completed: 2420
Fish Caught: 8063
Just a few fun facts on my new 85′s.
I’m glad to have them finally maxed. Now, we’ll see how long it takes me to get them to 90!

Buckets, Gorillas, and Petting Zoos, Oh My!
By admin | September 9, 2012
Today, I had the privilege of being a guest on the podcast, Girls Gone Wow! http://girlsgonewow.net/ It was great fun, and Sil, Rob, Raven and EJ were all very nice.
I think the show went well – with the main topic being centered around “mini-games” in WOW. But, of course, many other topics were covered as well.
You can download it (probably on Monday, September 10, 2012) from iTunes, or Stitcher radio. I hope everyone who listens will enjoy it!
The ladies and Rob are always looking for new guests (especially the female players), so if you want to “tell your story” and hang out with the cool peeps at GGW, let them know!
Also, if you run a podcast or blog (WOW related, especially), and need a guest, feel free to contact me via Twitter (@styxerofwow) or via this website!

Ships of Stormwind
By admin | September 6, 2012
I was doing some fishing and cooking dailies in Stormwind, and for some reason, the ships at the dock caught my attention. I have seen them plenty of times before, but I just started to notice them more. The moment I was taking these screenshots, the sun was pretty in the background, and the light from the lighthouse could be seen a little. I just thought they looked neat, and decided to post them.

Cookie Cutter, or DIY Spec Build?
By admin | September 2, 2012
With the new Mists patch, we are all faced with a new (simplified) talent system. However, as with past talent changes, the cookie cutter trees arrive on Noxxic, WOWPopular, Wowhead, and Trade Chat (hehe).
I am leveling a lock and a mage now, and I want to try to max them before Mists. I am torn between picking my own talents and using a guide. I don’t want to be the worst dps in a dungeon, but I also like to play around with the talents.
I wonder what everyone is doing? Just how bad could free styling it be? Leave a comment and let me know!

Goodbye Polearm…
By admin | August 29, 2012
So, as a hunter, I am sad to see my melee weapon go. I am not usually nostalgic about armor or weapons, but this one is special to me. One day, out of the blue, my guildmates presented me with a Witch Hunter’s Harvester as a gift for leading some social activities for the guild. I was so surprised and honored! So, although I can keep it and put it on when not in combat, it won’t be ever-present as it once was.
I know the shaman characters were sad about losing totems, but I wonder if other players will miss their melee weapons (those who lost the slot for them)…
